The seminar "Images of Spain in the United States", held at the Cultural Center of Bancaja, Valencia on 2 October 2009, brought together leading specialists in art, culture and recognised Hispanists.
The program was divided into three sessions that analysed the image of Spain from different perspectives.
The first session focused on Spanish Art in the United States and was moderated by Art Professor Mr. Felipe Garin. The speakers were Mr. Javier Molins, Communication Director of RRTV and Art Critic, Mrs. Lourdes Fernandez, Director of ARCO, and Mr. Edmund Peel, President of Edmund Peel Fine Art Consulting.
The second session, moderated by Eduardo Garrigues, Secretary General of the Foundation Spain-US Council, offered a critical view of U.S. Hispanism, through literature, history and culture, with presentations from Mr. Richard Kagan, History Professor at the John Hopkins University, Mr. Mitchell Codding, Executive Director of the Hispanic Society and Mr Luis Fernandez Cifuentes, Professor at Harvard University
The final session gave an overview of the perception of Spain in the United States. It was moderated by Ambassador Juan Romero de Terreros and presented by Mrs Marta Jimeno Viñes, Mr. Jaime Otero, both from the Real Instituto Elcano and Mr. Ramiro Atristain - Carrion, President of the Hispanic Leaders Association.
The seminar was closed by José Luis Olivas, President of Bancaja, and Mr. José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, Chairman of the Fundación Consejo España-Estados Unidos.
