I Bernardo de Galvez Award: Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico

Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico received from Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri, President of the Foundación, the first Bernardo de Galvez Award for his continuous work in strengthening the relationships between Spain and the United States. The ceremony took place at the residence of Spain's Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Carlos Westendorp, on September 27, 2007. A select group of Hispanic personalities and North American politicians were present.

 

Bill Richardson, of Hispanic origins and a democratic presidential candidate, received this award in merit to the role he has played over the past years in deepening the relationship between Spain and the United States. The Foundation wants to especially thank him for his support in the creation of the U.S.-Spain Council and the Fundación Consejo España-Estados Unidos, and fortifying the economic and cultural ties between both countries.

II Bernardo de Galvéz Award: The Hispanic Society of America

In the second edition of this Award, the Foundation chose the Hispanic Society of America for the outstanding contribution made by this institution to foster cultural ties between Spain and the USA. 

The award ceremony took place on October 2, 2009 in Valencia, with the framework of the Joaquin Sorolla exhibition, sponsored by Fundación Bancaja, part of whose paintings come from the Hispanic Society.


Mr. George Moore, President of this institution, received the Award in the hands of Mr. Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri.
