Conversations about Gálvez: Spanish Hero of the American Revolution


The dissemination and the enhancement of the Spanish Heritage in the United States has been one of the main objectives of the Fundación Consejo España- EE.UU. since its creation. Framed within the space for reflection on relevant figures from the Hispanic-North American world, which was inaugurated with Archer M Huntington in 2019, on July 23rd, 2020, the Fundacion organized the virtual meeting “Conversations about Galvez: Spanish Hero of the American Revolution”.

The discussion revolved around the work of Gonzalo Quintero “Bernardo de Gálvez: Spanish Hero of the American Revolution”, which is considered “the best biography published in the US in 2018” and will be translated to Spanish in the Autumn. Focused on the military figure of Bernardo de Galvez (native of Malaga), It highlighted the important -and often forgotten- role of the Spaniards during in the American Revolution.

The conversation between the author Gonzalo Quintero and Francisco Rodríguez Jiménez, Professor of the University of Extremadura and codirector of the think Tank Global Studies, was conducted by Manuel Lejarreta, Secretary General of the Fundacion, and was transmitted live in our YouTube channel.
