Presentation of the Protocol to modify the Agreement to avoid Double Taxation between the United States and Spain

On September 20, the Fundación organized jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the US Embassy in Spain and the Ministry of Finance a breakfast meeting to present the Protocol to modify the Agreement to avoid Double Taxation between the United States and Spain that will enter into force on November 27, 2019.

In his introductory remarks, the Chairman of the Fundación Consejo España – EE.UU., Juan Lladó, highlighted and specially thanked the work done by the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain (AmchamSpain), also member of the board, during the negotiations preceding the signing of the Protocol, a large and complex process initiated in 2009 under the governments of President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and President Barak Obama.

During the meeting, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Fernando Valenzuela, and the US Ambassador to Spain, Duke Buchan III, signed and exchanged letters attached to a copy of the Protocol in the presence of the Secretary of State for Finance, Inés Bardón, and the Chairman of the Fundación, Juan Lladó.

The Secretary of State Fernando Valenzuela also highlighted the meaning of the agreement itself as an element of modernization in the relationship with the United States, which are outstanding according to his view, settled in solid basis in multiple fields such as politics, economics, culture and security. Finally, he thanked the Fundación Consejo España – EE.UU. for its leading role in fostering a basic and intimate relationship with the United States.
